Every salesman at a dealership should know how to adequately pitch a sale. The unfortunately truth is that a sale can be a delicate process and that even the best sales people will make mistakes from time to time. Today we’re going to cover three very common mistakes made in sales pitches.

The first sales mistake commonly made at auto dealerships is not having a consistent message throughout the dealership. This can often be attributed to sales managers, since they should be working with their salespeople to avoid just this kind of thing. Your salespeople are effectively the face of the organization, so when your customer interacts with them and is given inconsistent treatment and messages, it doesn't reflect well on your business. Instead, try to keep all of your employees across all communication channels singing the same tune.

A second big mistake commonly found in sales pitches is that they are too long. In the case where this happens, the important parts may become diluted to the point where the pitch doesn't seem much like a pitch at all, but more like normal conversation. Having a precise and impacting message is important and effective. Just make sure you don’t go too far and not provide enough information.

The last mistake made in sales pitches that we are going to cover today is the expectation of rejection. Sales processes are not always successful and many times even a flawless customer interaction from the salesperson's behalf can end in rejection due to reasons outside of his or her control. As a salesperson, it is unacceptable to let the fear or expectation of rejection effect your proposal. This causes the pitch and sales process to be crafted in a way that expects rejection, which will undoubtedly lower your rates of success.
