Your Character in the Workplace

Character, by definition, is a combination of morals and beliefs that dictate how we treat others, our environment, and ourselves. Whether you recognize it or not, your character and that of your sales people will play a vital role in your organization as a whole. Oftentimes businesses and dealers may wonder whether or not they are regularity practicing good character. Luckily, there are a few questions you can ask of yourselves to help supply the answer.

Do you have high turnover? How about large amount of customer and employee complaints? Is there friction and tension in the workplace? While issues like these can arise due to a number of different factors, to a degree it may be caused by the character of the business owner,the employees, or even just the environment of the business. The good news is it is never too late to set things right.

A generally good rule of thumb to use is the golden rule, “treat others as you would like to be treated.” As cliché as this is, it really is great advice. Another great rule to observe, which I am sure you have also heard before, is “Would you take this action or treat this customer this way if your parents were watching?” again, very cliché, but it gets the message home. There is definitely room for morality, ethics, and character in the dealership.
