Here is a couple of questions you should ask yourself if you own, manage or are employed by an auto dealership/retail business.
What are your consumers' first impression? What goes through their minds when they pull up to your business?
These questions are crucial to the success of your business. The first impression you make to your clients, the majority of the time, dictate the outcome of that transaction. The environment that you create helps to either build urgency or latency.
As a consumer/vendor walking through the doors of over 10 dealerships a day, I get to experience this concept.
Here are a couple tips that can help you set the precedence before your consumer ever steps through your facility:
1. Train your staff to be mentally and physically prepared to create a magical experience for the consumer.
2. Set the tone! As managers and owners, make sure that you are doing your part to treat your staff the same way you want them to treat your consumers.
Utilizing these tips can help you create the impression that you and your clients both desire. A favorite book of mine that can help is Enchantment by Guy Kawasaki

3. Create an environment conducive to what you are trying to accomplish. If you are having a sale, have a SALE! Make it fun. You want to make people feel good about it.
4. New car dealers, take this with a grain of salt... having your salespeople hunt down your consumer before they get out the vehicle is not professional. This makes people feel awkward and hesitant.
5. Be different! Try offering your consumers something when they walk up. Tell them about the advantages of purchasing from you and your store. Make the experience better than your competition.
